Why would anyone want to go back to the old outhouse when there’s a flushing loo right there inside the house? It wouldn’t make sense. To any of us who have experienced life the old way, the thought of it is ridiculous. And the bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 ‘therefore, the old has gone and the new has come’. Hallelujah!
Just as at the flush of a button we can deal with human waste, at the last cry on a cross, Jesus dealt with all human suffering and sin when he pronounced ‘it is finished’ – see John 19:30 and particularly take note of the fullstop at the end. There is no comma, sin is dealt with once and for all. Grace has entered our world and there is no going back.
